About Us

Thorn & Bloom was founded from my love of plants, but to be truthful, it didn’t start that way. When I graduated from college (Go Bucks!), I just needed a job and was willing to work for whoever would pay me. So, I took my first job at a logistics company. Two days in, I knew it wasn't for me and started looking for something else. About six months later, I landed a job with a company in the horticulture industry.

At the time, I didn’t care much for plants. I thought they were fun decorations, but I never owned any. I was a guy in college, so honestly, that was probably for the best. But I knew that if I wanted to be good at sales, I needed to learn the industry—how to speak the language of growers, buyers, greenhouse employees, and beyond.

There isn't a manual you can sit down and read about this industry. Well, maybe there is, but I had just finished school and had no interest in reading anything else at the time. So, I had to find a different way to learn. My approach? Asking my customers questions—which turned out to be a win-win. Not only did I gain industry knowledge, but I also learned about their businesses and how they operated. Slowly but surely, I started to learn more every day.

Over six years later, I’ve gained a wealth of knowledge about the industry, especially houseplants. What captivates me most is that there’s always something new to learn. And while I’ll be the first to admit there’s still plenty more to discover, I know enough to be dangerous. Once I combined that knowledge with my newfound appreciation for plants—and the joy they bring—I knew I was ready to start this journey.
